ADHD is a complex neuro developmental disorder that shows up differently in each individual. And while there is no “cure” necessarily for the condition, there are many different treatments that can help children, teens, and adults manage the symptoms of ADHD successfully. Here are a few:
Medication for ADHD
Many have heard about taking medications for ADHD. Taking medication is not only a personal decision, but also often a difficult decision. While proven to be very helpful for some, medications may have adverse side effects. To determine if medication is the right option for you, you should consult with your doctor.
Therapy for ADHD
Therapy has proven to be a helpful treatment option for managing symptoms of ADHD that can lead to improving behavior, self-control, and self-esteem. Individual and family therapy can be helpful to not only support the child/teen with ADHD, but also, to equip family members with the skills and tools on how to help their child with ADHD.
Life Coaching/Social Skills Training
Life coaching and social skills training focus on equipping individuals with ADHD with the tools and techniques to better understand and manage their ADHD symptoms. Some of these tools/techniques may include stress management and effective coping strategies.
Micro Current Neurofeedback
Micro current neurofeedback (MCN) is a non-invasive, painless treatment used to alleviate symptoms and produce long-term results more quickly and more efficiently than using traditional talk therapy alone.
MCN uses a pulse to help the brain reset and reorganize itself. It involves applying small sensors to the head and neck (frequencies are weaker than that of a cell phone). A signal is sent to the most dominant brain wave. In doing this, the brain releases fixed, frozen patterns, which then “reboots” the brain. This greatly benefits the nervous system by allowing it to regulate itself. This technique is very helpful to individuals with ADHD.
At TrU Wave Psychology, we use a combination of the treatments above to help our clients better manage their ADHD symptoms. Our goal is to create long lasting, positive effects on our clients, allowing them to see greater results faster.
