Is micro current neurofeedback the same as traditional neurofeedback? The short answer is micro current neurofeedback is a faster and more efficient form of traditional neurofeedback.
In traditional neurofeedback, information from an individual’s brain waves are transmitted to a computer. The client, with the guidance of a technician, attempts to train their brain by mentally manipulating the events seen on the computer screen. For example, the client may be shown a distressing video and then is taught how to de-escalate stress that they are feeling (as shown by viewing the brain waves on the computer screen). No signal is transmitted back to the brain. Traditional neurofeedback doesn’t include the software that can help clients target specific areas of the brain; therefore, this type of treatment may require 40 or more sessions to achieve noticeable results.
In comparison, micro current neurofeedback mimics what is done to the brain during deep therapy work but on a much more efficient, faster and grander scale.
Micro current neurofeedback, a painless and non-invasive treatment, sends brief stimulation to the nervous system, resulting in a temporary fluctuation in brainwaves, allowing the brain to “reset” and regulate itself as well as the central nervous system.
Using an electroencephalogram (EEG), the technician is able to pinpoint the topic of discussion that creates the most erratic brain waves, and is then able to target that specific area. The machine then balances the brain waves by mirroring the brain waves in both the left and right hemispheres of the brain.
This form of treatment has proven to be extremely effective in helping individuals manage the symptoms of:
ADHD
Anxiety
Depression
PTSD
Traumatic brain injury
Substance abuse
And more.
Clients generally notice improvements and changes either immediately or within the first few sessions. They often self-report feeling clarity, calmness, diminished headaches/migraines, improved sleep and depression, improvement in mood and more.
We have found that a combination of therapy and micro current neurofeedback has proven to be more efficient and effective than just using one or the other.
